Bruce Rupert and Shelly Brewer, a married couple from Lower Norton, New Brunswick, Canada, changed their lives when they won $1 million in the 6/49 lottery in February. In an interview, they told how they were affected by this significant amount.
Rupert, a former member of the armed forces and a paramedic, said winning the lottery was like getting paid without having to work too hard. Brewer, on the other hand, emphasized her thrifty nature, stating that she has never been one of those who spend money on jewelry, clothes, or cosmetics.
Instead of extravagant spending, the couple decided to invest most of their winnings to ensure a stable and modest income. Brewer still hunts for grocery store sales, while Rupert continues to get a haircut at home, maintaining his thrift habits.
It took Rupert some time to get used to his newfound freedom. There were moments when he woke up, went about his usual business and only then realized that he had retired. According to Brewer, despite the unexpected luck, Rupert still likes to play the lottery, winning small amounts from time to time.
