Entain, owner of iGaming brands like Ladbrokes and Coral, acquires Polish sports betting operator STS Holdings for approximately $950m (£750m).

In a significant move for the European gaming industry, Entain has successfully acquired STS Holdings through a negotiated price of $5.97 per share. With £450m paid in net cash, this transaction marks a major expansion for Entain, following its previous acquisition of 365scores.

With this deal, Entain aims to strengthen its foothold in the rapidly growing Polish market while leveraging STS’s licenses to operate in the United Kingdom and Estonia. The acquisition is led by Entain CEE, a subsidiary focusing on the Central and Eastern European markets, in collaboration with EMMA Capital.

Expressing excitement, Entain CEO Jette Nygaard-Anderson stated, “We are delighted to be acquiring the leading sports-betting operator in Poland, which is a hugely exciting and fast-growing market.”

Ownership in the venture is divided, with Entain and EMMA Capital holding 75% and 25% respectively based on their contributions. STS CEO Mateusz Juroszek and his father, the long-time owners of the company with a 70% stake, will reinvest funds in Entain CEE and retain a 10% stake.

STS has established itself as a dominant player in the Polish market, boasting approximately 785,000 active users and experiencing double-digit customer base growth in recent years. With 400 betting shops across Poland, STS aims to further expand its presence in both retail and online channels.

Entain affirms that this acquisition aligns with its broader strategy for Entain CEE, focusing on mergers and acquisitions across Central and Eastern Europe. The addition of STS to their portfolio facilitates the company’s objective of scaling its operations throughout the region.
